Quality of Seagate hard drives?

Anyone have experiences about seagate they cab share? They seem very affordable but how do they compare with others like western digital?

There really is no good brand and bad brand. They are all roughly the same. However, people will testify otherwise, just because the only failed drive they had was a WD, or a Seagate, or whatever.

You better beleive it :P I had two Seagate drives from two different places(Newegg and Dell) both fail during ths ame week! Both were brand new, both were identical...

As Bobo said, most drives are the same, so it's hard to make calls which are really better or worse. Personally, I stick with Western Digital. I have also heard lots of good things about Samsung drives, but never tried one personally.

Seagate is awesome. I have bought 6 drives from them and none have failed yet (Ive had 2 or 3 for at least 4 years now). I always trust them. I had a western digital (or something like that), In fact I think I purchased it from you Darren, and the friend I got it for said it worked about a week and then died. Granted, my friend probably didnt connect it correctly, and he still hasnt given me the drive to test it.

Seagate are quite good imo.....Mine can be quite noisy though but i think its because they stuck in right up the front of my case.

Like this(NOT MY ACTUAL SYSTEM)...

I think i might move it if possible.

Seagate drives are not noisy! At least my last few drives weren't! I have one in an external enclosure and you practically can't hear it running. There's only a very slight hum, no clicks or anything.

Yea, seagate hdds are pretty quiet. I know some of the early Xboxs had them. I myself have never had a bad experience with a Seagate hdd. Someone told me that Western Digital USED to make good hdd but now they suck, anyone know what truth there is to that? Right now i have a WD, so far no problems but id hate for it to one day have a horrible crash : /.

I have a WD now and it's been fine. However, I do hear clicks from my computer now and then... Well, more like knocks. It sounds like something's banging aginst the side of the case, but the machine's not moving. I assume it's the HD, but no problems so far...

i only own 2 seagates the rest are wd and maxtor and i have to say non of the seagates died on me yet :) i'd stick with that or wd and ditch maxtor, i'm not buying them anymore. :)

Maybe its your computers soul banging on the case yelling "LET ME OUT OF HERE!!!" ?

Maxtor FTW!!!

I have had this Maxtor for years and it's yet to give me any sort of problems.......

Woa no. I would not trust Maxtor for anything. If i remember right, they bought Quantium i think it was. Both horrible brands. And iv had bad experience with Quantium and Maxtor hdds and more then 1 model. But thats just opinion :D

The Seagate drive I have now is the noisiest thing I've ever heard, it drowns out my Maxtor. Although it isn't quite as bad as the SCSI drives from 10 years ago....dang those things sounded like jet engines.

I love the sound of a jet engine booting up in the morning : )

Which reminds me, my old Deskstars used to be that loud without the side panel on my computer lol.

I've never had a problem with seagate drives, nor do I find mine loud. I've had problems with WD but I'd still buy one if the price was right.
