quality pc assembly.. recommendations?

I am looking to get a new PC desktop, and I know not to be fooled by name brand crap that is slapped together. I do not want to build a computer myself. I am looking to spend under $1500. I want a minimum of 3.0mhz processor, 2gb of ram, and at least 300 mb hard drive. I am going to be doing CPU intensive music production (FL studio, soundforge, protools, ableton live). I will not be doing any gaming, just multitasking with large programs.

Can anyone recommend a good company that could put together such a machine? I want a company that provides flexibility in terms of which companies provide their harddrives and RAM, not just a standard that you are stuck with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Michael

1. I seriously hope you meant 3 Ghz...
2. Clock speed means nothing, look at AMD processors
3. I also hope you meant 300 Gb...

Alot of people are stil going to try to convince you to build, but if you really want to buy, Ibuypower is pretty popular here for prebuilts. I recently found out that monarchcomputer does custom builds with a build fee of only $75, I dont know that many peopel who have ordered from them though.

we r in 2006 buddy;)

You all know what he means. He is here for our help, not to be poked fun at because he doesn't know all the computer terms. I'am sure that is why he wants to have one built.

Now come on and help him instead of making immature wisecracks.

i recommend having more harddrive than ram

i dont. id say all he really needs is 200 gig. it is wise to spend as much as you are comfortable with on RAM, because it is essentially what determines your computers capabilites. he may have a ferrari, but with no wheels, he wont be going anywhere.

also, as much as i hate to say it, you might want to look at intels. they are more expensive, but for your purpose they just might be better.

go dual core if you are doing that type of multi tasking, and when it comes to dual core go with AMD Athlon X2, it out performs the pentium D, even in multi tasking... (which in multi tasking intel is usually better, just not in this case)

with that type of budget i would go with a pc with AMD Athlon X2 4200+ or 4400+

i would look for a PC 2 with 2GB ram like you said

dont need a good video card

need a good sound card obviously

u can buy whole desktop PCs at www.newegg.com

if you buy a Compaq, HP, Dell, eMachines, Gateway... stuff like those, ur PC will come with a bunch of junk on it that you dont want... so i would recomend a custom PC
even ebay isn't out of the question...

If you get:
X2 3800+
Nice Mobo around $130
2GB dual channel DDR400
300GB hard drive (make sure to get one with SATAII and 7200RPM and 16MB cache)
6800GS
Audigy2 ZS
etc..
It will be about 1500 at ibuypower

i think he needs better sound card for music production...

if you built it tho you could get a better processor to...

Yea, he could get a XiFi Platinum. It would be so nice if he would build it. Its not that hard, just have us help him get the right parts and it will go 123. He could make a SWEET computer.

building a pc could take as little as 4 hours... and can b lots of fun... (for me at least... but i like computers soooooo mebbe that is y) just read this over and you will be ready to do it

these parts would b easy to build and be excellent for what you need, and respect your price limit

Processor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 1GHz FSB

Motherboard: Asus A8N5X ATX AMD Motherboard
RAM: GeIL 2GB (1x2GB) 184-PIN DDR400 (PC3200)
Video Card: Chaintech Geforce FX5500 SA5500T2
Hard Drive: 300GB 7,500 RPM Maxtor DiamondMax
Case: Apex PC-115 Beige
CD/DVD:DVD Burner: NEC Beige IDE
Sound Card:Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic Sound Card
OS: WIndows XP Home

ends up being about $1300

I will not be doing any gaming,

A 7800GT is not necessary for a PC that's not for gaming. Personally, i'd look at the Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard, which features integrated graphics. Although if you're going to spend that much money on a processor, pairing it with a sub-$100 board seems crazy. Other than that a cheap PCI Express video card would suffice (perhaps with a slightly better mobo, though).

I agree with you in that a cheaper video card being adequate. However, integrated graphics will not suffice for video editing. He could get a Quattro or (ATI card here) for his workstation, however, the question would be if the "pc assembly company" would allow it. That's the best solution, Period. If not, just get a 6600Gt or a 6800GS

True, but where does he say he'll be doing video editing? From what I can see, he wants it only for music production, which doesn't require a high-end video card.

Exactly how much flexibility did you want .. cuz technically speaking, the small computer at the end of the street is a company and can build custom boxes...

Yea, he could get a XiFi Platinum.
XFi will serve as a poor-man's studio card, I'm sure he's dealing with better

However, integrated graphics will not suffice for video editing
Good thing he;s not doing that either
