whenever i try to play a movie from my hard drive with wmp or winamp i get a window that says the player needs to close

Ive tried replacing my quartz.dll but it doesnt work a reformat works as ive tried it before but id rather not have to do that, the video files dont play on vlc either but that has a different .dll in the error message called msvcrt.dll

Have you tried to do a repair on your copy of windows? That might help fix missing or corrupt files that lead to this error.

i tried a reapir and it didnt work:confused: i still cant watch movies because of that quartz.dll so i tried to burn them to a disc and wtach em on my dvd player but i cant brun movies either! nero locks up during the burn process and has to be eneded via taks manager it can burn data disks but not movies please help as this is quite agrivating

ill try and download the codec pack and when i went to check it says video clip? thats with the default player as wmp and it says winamp media file if the default is winamp...

Edit-downloaded and installed the codec pack and it still doesnt work I ran the Gspot Info tool and found out they are avi files and the codecs are installed for them but it still wont play...

quartz.dll is a file of DirectShow library. May be your DirectX isnt new enough. I think you can fix it by installing the DirectX 9.0 c.

another way
You can copy the file to C:\WINDOWS\system32
and input "regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dll" in the run box of startup.

issue still persists ive ignored it for a while but it also happens in firefox wihen a video is on a webpage but it only crashes when the video is played with wmp googles video player and youtubes still work
