My friend has a prblem with his motherboard. This is an HP motherboard the model number of the motherboard is P4G533 LA. When he turns on the PC, it does a long beep. like beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. I think you get the point lol. I told him the motherboard is fryed. Is this true. He wants to replace it with the same one but i cant find the same one. heres the website about the motherboard http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07845

Is there jumpers on this motherboard? Im not sure i tryed to find some but no luck. Is it possible that theres no jumpers? thanks in advice.

The real problem there sounds like bad memory! The HP/CompaQ bios error code list points to that as the problem.

Long beeps do usally mean memory problems...

As for the model, I do beleive most HPs and Compaqs are Asus as Chris mentioned. However, I don't think you can find them elsewhere as JUST Asus...

could be. the only RAM he supports is i think its 1600. im not sure ill talk to him tommerow. If there different numbers say he has 1600 and he put in 2400 would the RAM fit in the motherboard right? like as putting it in.

The memory according to the specifications is either PC1600 or PCC2100. The next memory is the PC2700. All three of these are 186pin dimms. If PC2700 was used that would set off alarm bells there fast enough. It could have been mislabled memory when bought? That's also possible.

we didnt buy any ram yet. the mobo can support pc1600 or pc 2100. the mobo can only support 1 gig. if me bought a x2 512 which equal 1024 MB is this ok?

The one way to insure that the correct memory is installed is to use new memory bought without mixing that with the other now seeing problems. That board will run 1gb(two x 512mb) of DDR266 PC2100 memory.

On most boards the usual beep code heard is pointing at memory. But you still have to refer to a guide depending on what bios is being used. If you hear a long and then two short beeps that generally points at a faulty video card with the rest being bad ram. On others it may be 1long, 2 short for bad ram for example. One pllace to go for beep codes once you know which bios you have is found at any one of the links here.

On many boards that will point directly at the video card and not the board itself. If there is nothing seen onscreen when turning on the power that would be the first thing to look at.

its maybe the mobo because we got new RAM and that wasnt the case. It cant be the video right because theres an image on the screen. he cant even use his keyboard either. does this sound like a mobo issue?

Besides memory or a video card being the failed hardware the only other beep code generally seen would be a bad cpu alert! With a bad chipset or useless bios eprom chip you wouldn't hear anything. The beep codes are part of the bios programming when it detects a failed device. A bad chipset means nothing at all starts not even the bios programming.

could it be a video card issue and though theres an image on the screen. it was only an HP screen even though you cant access the keyboard at all. can that be a video issue?
