question about BIOS and geforce 7600GT

in my BIOS, when i do the PCI Plug and Play Setup, the "Primary Graphics Adapter" was automatically set to PCI VGA, although the other option is PCI-E VGA, which clearly is what my geforce is.

first off, i don't know what the difference between those two settings is having on my computer's video capabilities, and secondly, should it be changed to PCI-E VGA? i would think yes, but simply because it defaulted to PCI VGA is why i'm slightly confused.

my guess is that PCI VGA runs at 8x, while PCI-E VGA is running at 16x, correct?

put it to PCI-E vga simply because thats what your card was designed to do; also it should enable texture accelleration which i believe is lacking from PCI mode.

PCI has nothing to do with PCI-E. Totally different interfaces. If a card is running at PCI speeds, you'll get something more along the lines of .1x :P

You don't need to mess with that setting as it only deals with a PC that has more than one card. If you have a PCI and PCI-Express card, this will tell it which to use as the primary. Same goes if you have an onboard card and an additional card(we'll say PCI for compatibility sake) If you don't select the PCI card to be the primary card, the computer will continue to use the onboard.

Well i have that same question, i have a 7600 GT (pci-e) but my bios's Primary Graphics Adapter setting is in Onboard, what would happen if i set it to PCI-e??? The GPU works, even though its set on onboard...

well.. i think it can actually see that there is no monitor connected to the onboard vga, or its turned off, thats why it switches to the 2nd grafic's adapter.
either way,.. it doesnt mater for the pc's performance.. its merely the sequance the pc starts looking for wich grafic's adapter is beeing used. So if it works fine, there is no need to change it, since you wouldnt see a difference after anyway (i think :) )

Oooh! thats why! everytime i turn my PC on, a box appears on the monitor saying that there is no cable connected to the monitor (the setting is on "onboard") it lasts about 5 seconds then the monitor turns on and everything is fine. So if i change that setting ot "PCI-E" will the monitor turn on without showing that little box???
