Question about buying a new memory ram

hi, im going to purchase a new memory stick and my current one is 2100, and my cpu is a Intel Pentium 2.0 GHZ with a 256 mb of ram currently installed, but if i go and buy it does it have to be a 2100? or can it be a 3200? and if i can put the 3200 in my computer does that mean i cant put my 2100 with the 3200 because they are not the same type of memory?

If you put the 2100 with the 3200, the 3200 will just run at the slower 2100 speed.

Before installing any new memory you want to know what the board supports. If it doesn't list DDR400 as one of the types supported it may not run at all. Not all memory can backclock on older model boards. First look over the board specifications to see what memory is supported. What make and model board are you running there?

As asked earlier what is the make/brand and model of the system board? Upon going to the manufacturer's site or a good number of online vendors with that model in stock the specifications can be read there. The support site provided by the manufacturer will be the most reliable since vendors can goof up when posting specific details.
