In my device manager and a few other places like dxdiag it says i have 2 processors both at 3.0 ghz but my comp is not dual core... and i look at properties of both the processors and they are the exact same thing... what would happen if i disable one??

More than likely you have a Intel Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading technology.
Hyper-Threading works by duplicating certain sections of the processor, which allows a Hyper-Threading equipped processor to pretend to be two "logical" processors to the host operating system, allowing the operating system to schedule two threads or processes simultaneously.

Well if you disable "one" am guessing it wouldent then live up to its HT name would it, as schoning16 explained.

I don't think you're able to disable one of the processors, because the other one technically isn't there. If you were to disable one, I"m sure it would try to disable the processor.

You can't disable a "core", but you can disable hyper threading.
