Question about GPU Temp

I have a GTX 275. I only play WoW. I noticed the air coming out of the video card exhaust was pretty hot.

Here's my temp readings. Are they good, or too high?

Thats perfectly fine. You can see the max on the right hand side. All well and truly below anything to worry about. 80oC is about the highest you want to go on the GPU.

Thanks. That was my temps when I first started the game. As I started playing it on Good settings I noticed the temp was 85C... So, I put the setting down to Low and the temp was 79C to 81C... Will having my card run 85C for hours a day burn up my Graphics card? I'd rather play on Good setting than Low.

Its in the higher spectrum of what I would be comfortable with, but alone I don't think those temperatures would cause a problem. Your card is a little older has it ever been cleaned?

Yeah, I cleaned it a few days ago and added new thermal compound, and, yeah, it's a bit older. I think it was running even hotter before I took off the old compound and added more.

So, 85C for hours a day should be alright?

Thats perfectly fine. That GPU can run up to and slightly over 100oC.

If you're worried, download MSI Afterburner, install it.

Then focus on what ive circled in red below.

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Under the General Tab, check the Start with Windows and Minimise checkboxes.
  3. Click on the Fan Tab
  4. Click on the Enable User Defined..... Fan control check box
  5. Click on the squares on the line and modify so that after 60oC it ramps up to 90% at 80oC and 100% for any temps higher. You can modify this if it is too loud.
  6. Click on OK on each until you get back to the original MSI Afterburner GUI
  7. Click on Apply overclocking at system start up
  8. Click on Apply
  9. Minimise MSI
  10. Restart.

Now your machine should automatically adjust fan to control thermal on your card.
