Question about internet speed

Well, Im not really good at those internet speeds, but I pay for 12 Mbit/s download, and 1 Mbit/s upload speed, but speedtest.net says I have only 4-5 Mbit/s download speed and 0,8 mbit upload speed, why isnt my download speed 1,2 MB like it should be? Is the problem in my Thomson 585 router?

Reboot your modem and router and see if speeds increase. If not, contact your internet provider and have them test your line. If you have separate modem and router, you may want to connect straight to modem and test speed as well.

Sometimes, it does matter where you are as well. I'm out in a little country village; and my broadband is AWFUL at times; at most, we have an iPad and two PCs browsing/checking mail etc on it at the same time, but the highest it goes is about 1.9Mbps download, and about 1ish upload... Sometimes the upload speed has been a few times faster than the download speed!
So to cut a long story short, location certainly plays a part. :P

Doesnt your contract state those terrible two little words "UP TO"?

Yea, that's the bummer in almost every contract ever made nowdays. I was promised 100 mbps, and i maxed out at about 30. You can't really argue with them, since they say that the internet is working. I don't thing that consumer service is really prepared for this kind of fraud.

I think there should be seperate charging systems but could see what would happen if there was.

a. UPTO 10mbps £10 per month.

b. Between 10 and 30 £25 per month

c. Above 30mbps £35 per month.

That would be fair. Where I live, not quite the back of beyond but I can see it :) , I max out at 2.4mbps, but pay the same as someone receiving alot faster.

However, if they did start charging like this you could bet the charges would start at £25 per month.

How is that fair?

It might be the Thomson 585 router. Not sure though.

I recommend you reboot your computer atleast once
and then take a look at how fast the download speed, upload speed, internet speed etc. is.

If still not fast enough maybe (worked for me on another router) do
left click
then right click on Repair
it might work but not sure.

Also walls and other stuff may (sometimes anyways) block some internet signals so I highly recommend you get an extender that you can use the USB part of it to plug in and the router taking part of it gets the Thomson 585 router connected to it then
tape the extender to the computer (above the monitor or beside the monitor but not on the monitor) might work but not sure.

Good luck on getting the problem, problems etc. fixed.

Do you have the slightest idea what you're talking about?
