Question about lag

Hi,

Hopefully i will be getting a 1Gig stick of Pc3200 soon to replace the 2 x 256 i have.

My computer does currently play games like F.E.A.R and ive also played the Prey demo on it with my graphics card(Which i didnt think it would).:D

However most of these games i play lag only at the start of the game for a few seconds then they run ok.

For example,I run the game and it launches into the game but then it will lag and i dont play if for about 1 min and the game plays through the rest of the game fine without any lag at all :confused:

If i do get the stick of 1Gb will thes lag be history when i get into the game?
 
well if a game lags at the beginning, usually this means that itas just loading textures and anythign new in the environment to memory and your video memory. More RAM might speed it up but it will always be a little slow at the start (it usually should only last 10-20 seconds). I have a GB of RAM and I notice slight hiccups when moving into new areas on games like Oblivion so I would recommend getting the 1GB of RAM to repalce the 512MB you have since it will not only reduce lag but probably increase overall performance though that Sempron in your rig could also be a bottleneck on performance and the 9600 isnt exactly cutting-edge either. If you are tight on cash just get the RAM for now and a new CPU and/or video card later.

Yeah,Im gonna be getting that gig soon,

If i could afford it i would just have a new rig built but i cant so im stuck with this for a while.

However i was quite impressed by the graphics my 9600 gives me,There actualy quite good.Better than 64mb intergrated what i previusly had anway:D
 
Sounds like when I tried to run Need For Speed Most Wanted on my PIII 733MHz with 256M RAM. For the first couple minutes, it was jumping really bad, but after that, it ran better than it did on my Compaq! But then again, it had a Radeon 8500 and my Compaq had a Geforce 6200 :P

But yes, I also agree it's probably the lack of RAM.
 
Ive got NFS:MW and that game doesnt lag at all even at the start.

But obviusly NFS probably isnt so much memory demanding as fear so il just have to get the gig but until then i wont know.

Actualy i could buy the 1 Gig stick plus leave 1 of my old 256mb stick in their too for even more memory?

My mobo max supported ram is 2Gb.
 
All i know its a cheap one called Elixar technology and its Pc3200 @ 400Mhz it think:D

I realy dont know :D
