Question about LCD Monitor resolution?

If your maximum resolution for your Computer monitor is 1650 X 1050 does this mean it is the maximum it will display regardless even if you have 2 top end GPU's in Sli or Crossfire?

Yeah, Maximum res doesn't change. Usually the max res of the monitor is also the native resolution, the resolution the monitor looks best on per it's design.

Once the monitor is detected by Windows the maximum will depend on what the monitor supports even while video cards will support higher resolutions. The highest supported by the video card used here is 2560x1600 while the monitor won't go over the 1440x900 or 1440x1050 resolutions.

The 1440x1050 is an option if not lower at 1152x862 until the driver for the monitor itself goes on when downloading all updates including optional for hardwares at the MS update site. Then you can set the max 1440x900 resolution as the highest seen in the display settings. Each montor has it's own maximum.

Ahh ok,so even though people brag on how a certain card or cards get a high resolution really the only difference it makes is frames per second when playing games(no difference in quality)?

Most of the time people are more concerned about frame rates then anything else when going to ask about what make and model card to go with. even mid range cards will see good image quality with ATI taking the lead in that area. The new Radeon 3870s are supposedly passing the NVidia line of 8800s often in regards to frame rates from what I've been hearing by those running them or they simply looked at a review.
