Question About Monitor Power Supplies...

I just bought an LCD off of eBay with no power supply, and I was looking at power supplies (power adapters) for it, and found ones that said they were compatible, everything in the range of a 3.6 - 5 amp output... could an LCD take any of these, and is there any risk of damage from a slightly different amp output?

What??? A monitor with no power supply? I believe you just got ripped

Lots of monitors are sold without power adapters... and I got a pretty good deal on it... power adapters are only about $10.

It's Viewsonic VP181, not that it matters. Basically, what I want to know is, what kind of amperage tolerances do monitors have... can they go +/- one or two amps... I'm just worried that I'll fry it with a cheap power supply.

(Although, from my experience, when you try to use the wrong amperage power adapter, the power adapter goes poof, not the equipment. :P)

:) I would think it would be fine. Just looked at my 19" Sony and the amps consumption is 1A.

Wow, I feel like an idiot. I'm asking this with an LCD right in front of me... I just checked and the power adapter outputs nearly 1A more than the monitor is specified for.

You probably should be able to look on Viewsonic's website to find the correct model of power adapter for that monitor and see what the power specifications of that is...

Just look on the back, doesn't it say what voltage it requires?

You can just go to radioshack and get a power adapter for it. They even sell the ones with adjustable voltage, and no power tip, so you can buy a set of power tips to fit ANYTHING! BWAHAHAHA BWAHAHAHA
