Question about my gaming laptop

so I have a Lenovo y500 i7, sli 750's, 16gb ram
it only has a 15 inch screen, so if I hook up my laptop to a 1080p monitor and use the external monitor as my primary, would I lose any performance? Thanks!

If the resolution of the laptop display is 1080p and games run fine then I guess you wouldn't lose performance if you hooked it up to another 1080p display. It's the resolution that matters, not the size of the display.

You'll only be playing on one screen right? If you played on both the laptop display and the external monitor then you would probably lose performance because you'll be driving two monitors.

yeah im not going for eyefinity or anything but i would like to still use my laptop as a secondary monitor for web browsing and such whilst I game

If you have a 1080p TV connect it to the laptop via HDMI or whatever and see how it runs.
