Okay so I am helping my friend build a new computer. He is using his old computer that he had built by cyberpower pc we are going to take parts out of it and put it in a new case also upgrade the case, cpu, ram and mobo. i have a few questions about this.
1. he is running sata raid with 2 hard drives i have never actually done this when building a computer is it something you just have to do through the bios and also how do they hard drives plug in do they just plug in to the mobo via sata plugs or do you have to do something differnet when running raid config.
2. he has 2 video cards running sli this is something also that i have never done but is it simply plugging both video cards in and putting the sli bridge on and then chaning the settings in the bios
3. he has windows xp currently and wants to upgrade to vista would he just set up the computer and put in the vista cd and upgrade it?
4. lastly his harddrives have lots of info on them when we take them out of the old computer and put them in the new one will all that info still be intact
thanks guys in advance for the info.

1. Motherboard driver CD should have the RAID software...
2. You'll need a SLi compatible motherboard too..
3. No. When you install your new parts, (hardware), you'll need to reinstall the OS, unless it is a minor part (EX: DVD Drive, floppy, ect)
4. It probably would not work. You cannot plug and play HDDs. You'll need to backup the old information on a disk and transfer it by DVD/CD...

well the mobo will have raid and sli capabilities but i just don't know how to go into the bios and mess with it i am assuming its not that hard and the mobo manual will have the info on it. also the hard drives i guess what my friend can do is back up all his software and info onto an external hard drive and then when we install the hard drives into the new computer they will need to be wiped clean is that right? what about the os should we just format his hard drives after we back up his music, pictures etc then just install everything in the new computer and install a fresh version of windows vista?

Yes, you can backup the files to another source then copy back. You cannot plug and play hard drives.

I'm not that sure about the RAID applications. Let's ask some other guys on CF :)
