this is my first post so hello!
I have this installed on my laptop, and everytime i use my laptop i cant help thinking it slows the hell out of it. And when it does its weekly scan, it finds this one rogue cookie every time and nothing else. My question is this:

Is it worth getting rid of this software in place of a better/lighter security software? or should i continue using it (i have 112 days left until subscription runs out)??

and if the answer is yes to the first question, could someone point me towards the best way on removing every inch of norton (because i can imagine it dripping all over the insides of my laptop) and what should i use in replace?

thanks alot in advance for any information.

I would say yes, but I am biased against Norton.

I would recommend Kaspersky AV in it's place. It runs better, faster, and has a slightly higher detection rate. It also updates itself every couple hours (when you have an active internet connection) so you have the latest definitions.

As far as removing Norton thoroughly, uninstall it through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, then use the Norton Removal Tool.

thanks for the help, i think i am going to get rid of norton because it is quite hefty.

have you any recommendations for any free security? thanks

I also use kaspersky and I think it is a great antivirus. It has a very high trojan dection rate and also catches spyware...I often scan with other software but (super antispyware) is the only other software that ever caught something that kaspersky has missed.

When uninstalling norton, do NOT remove it from the control panel first. Use the tool right from the get go, or you'll have problems.

Second, for virus scanners, the top rated one is Kaspersky. The top rated free one is Avira and Avast!

AVG actually isn't very good anymore. I had a client a week or so ago that was "protected" by AVG, yet it took almost an hour to clean off all the infections that AVG didn't even notice.

Hi everyone,

My first choice for free av software is Avast. I have used it for years and it has never failed me. I used to use Norton.

I find it has a higher detection rate, more successful removal processes, lighter and more regular virus definition updates and much lighter on system resources.

I also like the options it offers such as boot-time scan, virus scanning as a screen saver and real time protection. It is very good and feature rich for a free program. Thankyou Alwil team.

Because Norton Internet Security 2007 is a suite you might also want to consider a third party firewall as the firewall that comes with windows only blocks incoming traffic not both in and out. Personally I use zonealarm free for this.

sirkenin is right dont use add and removed just use the norton removal tool, thats for a free ani virus everyone has there favs personnaly i like avg so i suggest you try them and you will soon figure out which you prefer.
