Question about Quads

I've noticed that there are some post in other forums where people are comparing the Xeon Quads and the Q9xxx series quads. Some say they are the same but that the Xeon is better because they are mainly for servers and run 24/7 . I was looking at getting the Q9450 and noticed that the Xeon 3550 is being called the same cpu. Is there a big difference in them and would the Xeon be a better choice? Also do you lose any performance by using a Xeon in a regular desktop pc?

As far as I know, they're both the same chip. It looks like the only difference is the branding - one being called a Core 2 Quad, the other labeled a Xeon sever chip.

If you're interested in the Xeon, make sure your motherboard will support it. Being Socket 775 doesn't guarantee it will work with all BIOS'.
