Question about recently bought ATI Radeon 5450

Hi! I have just recently bought a new computer, with the following specs:
Intel i5 CPU 750 2.66GHz, Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz, and a ATI Radeon 5450 1GB 3MSI.
The OP is Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.
I have a Samsung "SyncMaster 931BF" screen, wich allows only the maximum resolution of 1280X1024.
From what I know, this computer should be able to run most new games on High quality on this resolution.

The problem is that in any game I install I encounter the problem that... well....
NONE of the games work without lagging when they are set onto High quality.
I am talking about games like Assassins Creed II, Just Cause II, GTA IV, Bioshcok 2, Crysis, COD:MW2
etc.

I have noticed that when I adjust the settings in the ATI control center, from Performance to Quality,
the Quality is great, but the game is horribly lagging. When I adjust in from Quality for performance,
the games look just HORRIBLE.

I would like to ask for your help in adjusting the graphics in the right way in the control center..
or any of the solutions you can offer.

Thanks in advance! :P

I am going to assume that you bought this prebuilt as "a great, latest technology gaming computer!!!" beause tehre are a couple of flaws, the main one of which is causeing your problem.

The graphics card, isn't a gaming graphics card. Just because it is a 5000 series card doesn't make it straight away better than every predecessor. 5450 is a budget card that can churn out HD movies and do light gaming at best, not do heavy gaming at high settings, especially with the latest games like you are trying to play.

The other problem is that you are running a 32 bit OS with 4GB of memory. Not all of it will be utilised properly, you shouldn't really go over 3.5GB with a 32 bit OS

Agreed, Aastii,
To bbqz, with a GPU like that (mid range) you'll always have to have a compromise between performance and quality :/

Thank for the reply!
First, is there any Graphics card that you could suggest around the price of 100$? I'm pretty limited with cash right now.
Second, will it make a big difference between a 32bit OS and a 64bit OS?
Does it really make a big difference? I could reinstall if it does...

I was the one who picked the OS. Mistaken 86bit with 64bit.

I would sell the 5450, you could ebay it as new but without box, because it is, just throw it in a static proof bag and in a padded cardboard box when you ship it. Have a look at how much they are going for, and that will give you alot more towards your budget.

Before recomending a new card though, what power supply do you have? If you know it is say a 500W unit, what brand/model is it?

For 64bit OS, the difference won't be massive, but it will let you fully utilise the memory and extra should you wish to upgrade it. You say you bought it, if you bought Windows 7 retail, not OEM, it comes with both 64 and 32 bit, so just back up your data, format and install Win 7 x64 instead

I know its a 450W, don't remember the model.
I got 100$ for the old 5450, and I can spent around 100-120$ on the new one.
What can you suggest?

I would recommend a 5670 or 5770, those are both in the realm of gaming. the 5770 more so.

+1 for 5770, however, you will only be able to get one should the power supply you have be a good brand (Corsair, Silverstone, BFG, Antec etc)

until you find out the model, it is pointless getting a video card, because it will end up blowing it if the unit just so happens to be a POS.

to find out the manufacturer/model, take the side off your case and look at the power supply, it will have a label on the side with the manufacturer and model and other info on
