Question about router throughput

I have an older Cisco E1000 wireless router. I am considering upgrading to something a little better with more features. These expensive dual band routers that advertise speeds of like 350mbps or higher though...does that actually matter if you only have an Internet connection of like 50 down? I am just a bit confused as to what this is referring to and if you can really take advantage of something like this.

If you are only getting 50mb down then getting a higher rated router won't help. The only thing the 350 mb router would help with his networking like sharing files over different pc's, would help with transfer speed. So if faster sharing isn't an issue then there is no need to get the faster router.
