Question about salvaging data

Nigouki has two identical but physically separate hard drives. The Primary Data Core (c:, primary IDE Master) is working as well as it ever did with no problems. The Secondary Data Core (d:, primary IDE slave) used to work fine, but I can no longer access the data on it because I'm getting an error message saying that it's not formatted.

Jumpers and cables are set correctly.

I've heard that in situations like this, the data is still all there and uncorrupted, and can be salvaged if you know what you're doing. I'd like to know how.

The combined amount of data on the two drives exceeds the capacity of either one. I have no accessible external hard drives. Optical drive is secondary IDE master.

Note: Setting the d: drive to Secondary Master instead of Primary Slave (and adjusting the jumper accordingly) doesn't work.

Well, whatever's wrong, sticking the drive in the freezer didn't work, and "Recover It All Professional" does nothing but bog Nigouki down while the "Rd Err" counter goes up (during physical scan).

I seem to have underestimated the severity of the problem. I might need to get the Secondary Data Core sent to DTI's clean room so they can take it apart and recover the data that way.

your choice, but if you format at it, i have software that can recover all if not most of your data on the hard drive.
