Question about security

I was reading a recent PCMag or PC World magazine (I can't remember) and I came upon an article about ways to improve security for a notebook. They talked about buying a fingerprint scanner so that a computer can't work or be open without the correct fingerprint. However, I don't remember the name of it. Can someone help me out.

Microsoft has one (DG2-00002) and so does IBM. But I hope it's not a paranoia factor that's making you buy it. I've seen some who have bought them and then got lazy and annoid with using it. There are also biometric thumdrives if you just want to password protect your files.

seriously, thats something you dont really need, unless u have top secret stuff and there is a hacker in your house, etc.

new laptops are coming out with those things built in, it basically just ecodes a password from your fingerprint and yea, thats it.

now when you read it, is it about security of your notebook from online attacks? or from other people using it?

A biometric security measure is not meant to hide those porn on ur HDD (just use ur windows login password), however if u can afford then there is no limit to the security.
Get an external USB fingerprint scanner and lock ur system from other....:)

it's not meant to hide porn...i want it for college.
my neighbor's got the fingerprint thing on his laptop (thinkpad) and a whole lot of porn on his desktop where it's easier to mess with (for instance renaming it "pictures of _____'s sister"), I guess this doesn't add much, but I thought it was sort of ironic/funny

hey if u have a floppy in your laptop (which u might not) since they are so ancient... but if u do.. i can show u how to lock it with a floppy so that when u start, you have to have the floppy in order to startup, log in, and use it.

...and if somebody really wants to get what is in your notebook they will swipe your notebook and your finger..... good thing you didn't get the retina scanner.
