Question about the FDD cable that attches to the motherboard

If you have a low end motherboard and the FDD cable for the DVD drives only has 2 connectors (one to DVD ROM, one to motherboard) what are your options for two ROM's? I wanted to buy this from newegg but they are out of stock...

I'm amazed that newegg doesn't have any other model FDD cables with three connectors and amazingly I can't find any FDD connectors for sale online. Am I looking for the wrong thing or am I in the twilight zone here? I want to order one of these because my parts are being shipped! Where can I get a three connector FDD cable? Thanks!

Probably because it's not a common item to keep. I've been in this business over 16+ years, and I have seen strange adapters, and converters... what might have sold well a few years ago may not be sold any longer... manufactures and distributors eventually phase out items that have no market value any longer. Being it's a common issue when it comes to computers.

Are you just looking for floppy cables and can find them???

Or, is it you have two floppy drives which you wish to hook up.

Besides, the floppy cables I have have two connectors on them to attack any (2) floppy drives if you want... let me know if I have answered your question, or still need some assistance. (Like wanting to buy a standard floppy cable). JMHO.

are you sure you need a floppy cable? or are you talking about regular ide cables? You mentioned a dvd rom so I'm not sure if you are talking about floppy cables or ide cables.

Sounds like your talking about the old Floppy cables. You only need the one connector to hook up a floppy drive. You need IDE cables to hook up hard drives and Cdrom drives. If you are wanting to hook up two floppy drives then you would need a dual connector floppy cable, like the one you linked to.
 
Floppy cable are a different size than what a DVD drive uses (IDE = DVD drive, they are bigger)
 
I think he is mistakenly calling IDE FDD, and therefore, when he searches, he only finds FDD, which a 3 port one is somewhat uncommon. Really, he should be looking for an IDE cable, plenty of which Newegg has.

i really think that it's just a terminology error and it should be IDE cable as i have never seen a cd rom drive running from a FDD cable.
A short revision of pc parts descriptions should help you out in future, i've even had people ask me for SOFTDRIVES before !! turns out they meant cd rom drives. Don't get me wrong, i'm not one to nitpick at peoples mis descriptions of things but when you are trying to diagnose a customers problems over the phone and they don't even know what the ENTER key looks like then they really have no buissiness being in charge of a pc,
Sorry if i'm going on a bit but it's been a long day(got called to a customer who had a dead pc, only to find on arrival that their key meter was out of electric :mad:

Like other people have said you're looking for an IDE cable. Search for that and you'll be good. An FDD cable is for a Floppy Disk Drive
 
Along with being mistaken for IDE. Even if you really mean IDE and only have one port. (The board I'm buying only has one IDE port) You can get HDDs that use SATA cables instead. You have to know about this ahead of time though.

Not really true as they are completely different technlogies (parallel vs serial data transfer, etc), but I think I get what you mean:

It's becoming the new desktop HD standard.
