Ok well i got my Cpu (amd athlon 3700+) *retail*
it came with the inside stuff(green crap to hold fan/cpu inplace)
it was all broken and lil green things EVERY where
i was so pissed to see that tiger-direct crapped out
or ups who ever did it

anyways i was gonna return it but i saw that the cpu was in a lil plastic
protector and it looks fine and eather way im not using that fan/heatsink that it came with so idk about the fan...

Anyways to the topic..
I realized cpu's dont come with thermal compound :(
and I need a tube but dont know ANYTHING about it
like i need help choosing 1 and help with instalation...
anyhelp is appreciated...thanks..

All AMDs CPU foam packaging gets ripped. Its fairly common.

There isnt any paste on the botttom already? There should be a gray green layer of paste on the HSF.

Yeah stock heatsinks should have a packet on the bottom of them so you just put it on, lock the retension mechanism and *poof* thermal paste.

he was looking for thermal paste advice guys, and here it is:
SILVER 5 COMPOUND. its utterly the best. there are explicit instructions on the link i shall provide. you need a clean LINT FREE (meaning NO PAPER TOWELS!) surface on the heatsink! do not use your hands! the oil will prevent heat conduction! some useful tools: coffee filters (to wipe, its lint free) rubbing alcohol (preferably 90%) and a plastic sandwhich bag.
clean the surface with the alcohol and coffee filters, and then rub the silver 5 on the surface with your hand INSIDE the plastic sandwhich bag.
heres the link to the instructions in case i missed anything:
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm
and a tube of this stuff costs maybe $10 tops or $20 for a larger tube.
you can find it here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835100007

yeah i just placed my last and final order for this damn life killer lol
it should be here on friday if not then i have to wait over the weekend ..thats y i hate ordering crap on tuesdya
and im getting silver 5 compound aswell

There is a thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink (should be), you may be able to take that off and put it on your new heatsink until you get your new stuff.

nah id rather not mess with that because im not able to finish her up untill i get my last order so it would be pointless to install cpu then take it out in like 2 days then put it back.....know what i mean? its really mostly hell on my case because the aspire dreamer2's are made by a person with A.D.D and there not allignt so id have to insert a screw inside the place where the screw goes for the side panel.....hey a penny LOL

no but seriously im better off waiting ..i ordered a cable for floppy, a floppy drive, a disk drive cabel, some thermal compoud, a nice heatsink/fan..i think its called hyper 48 by coller max or something....2x nice 80mm fans, some zip ties and well I think thats it......
