question about upgrading older computer

I am looking into upgrading my g/f's older computer and am wondering two things. First how much ram can it handle in it's 3 ram slots?(is there an overall limit it can handle and does each slot have a size limit?) and second I am looking to install a larger hd in it also. The current 10 gig hd doesn't cut it. I was told buy a guy in a computer retail store(future shop) that as long as it is running xp, which it is, it can handle up to a 160 gig hd. Now b4 I go buy one I wanna get some second opinions from some other people. So here is all the info I can find on the computer in question. Any thoughts and info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Pentium 2, 400 mhz proc
512kb Cache Ram
current Ram is 3x64mb pc 100 (192mb total)
PhoenixBios 4.0 version 6.0
4s4EB2X0.86A.0022.P15

Hope this is enough info. I would like to put at least a 100 gig hd in it but would rather put a 160 in it if it will run it. As for the ram the more I can get in it the better just dont know enough to know the computers limits. thanks again.

pens fan! The pens! Really?!

Yes there is a limit to it. Do you have your motherboard manual anywhere? What about a computer model?

How much do you want to spend on this? Keep in mind that PC100 RAM is rather expensive, and you could build a new computer much much better than this for $200.

I don't have the motherboard info and the only thing i know about the model is Patriot EPP2400P. Hope that helps

Oh and you bet the pens, they are just getting warmed upwithin a couple years they will be one of the favs :)

Hmm...well I can't tell you for sure how much RAM it can take, but if I had to take a guess, it would be 768MB.

What is your budget for upgrades?

just get a new 200 buck budget comp, that processor wont do anything with any upgrades, wont last more than a year

a build could not be better than that and under 200 dollars..
