I am confused about WI FI PHONES.

I want a Wi Fi Phone.

What I am confused about it I only want it to be a WI_FI phone.I want to set up my account as it is now on a pay per use plan where I only pay for the Min I am connected to the AT@T network which will be rare if never.

So can I get a wi fi phone that will connect to a wi fi network without having to subscribe to a monthly media package?

Go on your classifieds and get an unlocked HTC Touch, one of the older ones, then buy it, and put a pay per use plan on it. Make sure you question the seller and that the wi-fi features are enabled. Hope I helped

If the phone has wifi capabilities then you dont even need a AT&T data plan. Technically, you wouldn't need a phone plan either. The wifi is a function of the phone and is completely separate from the function of your plan.

From my understanding ukulele_ninja, he wants to use Wi-Fi whenever possible using a VoIP program like Skype to make phone calls, but he would want the option of a pay-as-you-go phone service if he needed to make a phone call without Wi-Fi.

Thats what I was thinking.I just need to be able to access the web at wi fi hot spots while traveling to do basic things like check yahoo email and maybe check a couple of the forums I am a member of.

What I do not want to do is accidentally sign onto the AT@T network and get some outrageous $$$$$ bill for service.

I know you can have them disable data, or at least they used to. I would assume this would allow you to only access the internet while in a wifi zone.

any wifi phone can do this and all carriers will disable data so you dont accidentally turn it on, also, most phones have an option to disable data in their options.
