Here is my issue, I built a new computer and want to install W7 ultimate 64 bit, problem is my disc wont boot for some reason. So I installed xp 32 bit for the time being. I know I cant install it by opening the disc once xp is loaded and hitting setup because its 64 bit and not 32 bit but is there a way to do this without booting into the disc? idk why it wont boot ive used it before

Change the first boot option in the bios to cdrom as first boot Hooga.

Pop the Win 7 disk in and then hit F10 to Save the changes.

When you see "Press any key to boot from cd" do this only that one time as you will see this message again on subsequent reboots.

PRESS NOTHING but simply let it install.

I have done all that it does not recognize the disc. I disabled all other boot devices except for dvd drive and it will not recognize it, every other disc i put in is recognized to boot though

Why did you disable all other boot devices?

Just make sure the optical drive is at the top of the list.

If it still won't install then either the disk is scratched and unreadable or the disk does not contain boot files or the optical drive lens is faulty and cannot read the disk.

Well i left the Hard drive as boot device but that was it, DVD drive is top of boot list, i know its not the lens because all other discs ive tried have worked, i installed xp just to check. How can i make sure the disc has all the right boot files?

What message are you getting Hooga when trying to boot it?

This is not some obscure downloaded 7 disk is it mate?

I just get please insert bootable disc and press any key

Its based off legitimate disc yes, I copied all the files off the disc and uploaded them to an external drive as a backup. I lost the original disc so I attempted to recreate the disc by burning all the files back onto a disc. Now it wont boot

No it wasnt installed on there already, its not an oem install its a retail disc, this machine has never had anything on it except for right now when i installed xp

and yes that is it

Did you burn it as a bootable image? Because you cant just straight burn the install files to a disc and have it work.

Ok

Reboot and go back into the bios and tell me the boot list as it stands now.

You cannot have saved booting from cdrom.

Ok after re-reading this thread it seems you are trying to use a disk that is a copy of Windows 7 that is already installed on another machine, would this be correct?

Well that's against the Microsoft EULA Hooga as you can only install a Retail version on a new or used machine after first uninstalling it from the original machine and then passing all software and paperwork to the new owner and this can be done on a one time basis only.

I'm afraid I cannot comment any further on your issue as I would not wish to bring this forum into disrepute with regard to discussing illegal use of software.

Sorry.

I might be wrong on this, but isn't it perfectly legal to re-use the install disc as long as you use different, legal, keys for each install? Because TS said he had separate keys.

Also, jhooga, did you see my previous post in this thread?
