My uncle loaned me a windows vista home premium dvd with the product key. I also have a product key on the bottom of my laptop for the same o/s. I was wondering if I could burn a copy of the dvd onto a blank dvd that I have and if I did would I need the product key that came with the dvd or can I use the one on the bottom of my laptop or both... He said I could make a copy if I wanted to.

You can't burn a copy of the O/S, it's illegal to do..! :(
Really? I didn't know that... I know people who has made copies and used their original product key that came with the disk when it was bought. I didn't have one and my uncle did and he said I could just copy his disk and write down his product key.

A key can only be used on one machine. Technically if you have the same flavor (OEM,upgrade, full retail) of the OS as your friend/relative does, then you can copy that cd to reinstall on your computer but MUST use your own key.
