so ima build a new rig soon, but some programs that i run, for example window blinds, cursor xp. yada yada, those stardock progs. always get messed up when i use them on SP2. so i had to reformat my computer countless times.

so now all the cds are SP2, i coould find 1 with sp1, but i just got a question.

say if i bought a new windows xp cd with sp2. will i still be able to downgrade to sp1a? or is there another sp that is better, because i've always had a bad experience with Sp2. so dunno if that has changed. so yea.. is there?

Due to initial problems seen when SP2 was released Microsoft posted one article giving different methods for removing SP2. For removing SP2 after installing Windows from a cd with SP2 included the last section at the bottom would probably be the one that worked. http://support.microsoft.com/KB/875350

How about buying an earlier release of XP with SP1 included? Sites like Amazon and others even EBay will list prices for copies including oem that are still available new. A good search engine always turns up... http://www.dealtime.com/xGS-Xp_Sp1~NS-1~linkin_id-8001430~r-1~CLT-INTR

sp2 is pretty stable now so i would not uninstall it straight away wait and see if the problems start again first also sp1 updates and support stops this month

My first XP disk was SP1 recovery disk. Then in 2004 you had to keep downloading the 266mb SP2 for any repair or reinstallation of Windows. Intially it saw problems with older softwares until game manufacturers and others released patches. I wouldn't go back at this time when SP3 is supposedly the item of topic coming soon. SP2 also has security fixes that were not seen in SP1 or SP1a. Most things now like updates for hardware require SP2. But to each their own as they say.

hmm well are u sure SP2 is stable now? cuz i currently have sp1 right now, and upgraded to Sp2 not long ago, while stil having my cursor xp and stuff and i couldnt even boot up to windows. i would get instant errors.. couldnt even get to operate anything, error messages, major lag. and yea... so had to go back to sp1. but yea.. updates and stuff.. i dont think u rrrrrrrrreli need it. but yea, wat do u guys think?

should i go with sp1 or sp2?

lolol. I can't believe ANYONE would put stupid cursors and other crap from Stardock ahead of their security. You don't downgrade to SP1 to install programs. That's ludicrous. Anyone that recommends that course of action is bent. Those programs are buggy pieces of crap anyways. That's not XP's fault. That's Stardock's. They go through revision after revision after revision and never get them right. Chuck them in the garbage. As you can tell I used to use them too, but got fed up with the problems with them.

LOL. i see ur point. Sp2 then? iono for some reason, sp2 just caused me a lot of problems in the past.. iono if they actually come wit a new upated pack on the oem cds. cuz the versions i download, i get the same problems even tho pppl say "o they fixed it."

Oh yeah, without a doubt SP2. There should be no question in your mind. Follow that up with all your security updates from Windows Update, as a lot of holes have been found since then.

I don't have any problem with it at all. I understand that some people with crappy hardware were having issues with it, but I never hear of that anymore.

When looking at the specifications tab under the features title the following is seen there.
"Windows XP Professional—complete with Service Pack 2—delivers everything you demand from your computing experience. Whether you’re on your own or running a business of any size, optimize your productivity with the digital world's latest innovations."

The "B" seen there probably refers to having XP Pro on dvd and not on a three disk set of cd-rs. Once you go to the MS update link you will still have a list of the latest updates to see downloaded and installed. The only probable difference is that a few updates are included after the initial release of SP2.
