Question About Wireless/Wired Network Connections

My question is...

Is it possible for a laptop to be connected to a network using both a wireless and a wired connection at the same time, using two different IP addresses?

Thanks for the help

Yeah, but it will typically only use one connection or the other. In some desktops there are two onboard nics which support load balancing between the two. I havn't heard of any laptops that can do this. Windows vista usually doesn't have as much trouble with having two things connected at the same time as XP did. Really the only reason to do such a thing is if you're trying to share an internet connection or bridge two networks. (Also this should probably be moved to the networking section)

Thanks for the speedy reply, the reason I want to be able to do this is because I play an online game that only allows you to have one connection from the same IP. It also does not allow you to play from a proxy.

So rather then use two computer (like I have been), I was wondering if it is possible to have 1 client per connection.

So the server would think that the connections were coming from 2 different devices, rather then just one.

OK, well this is hard to explain but... here we go....

Your external IP is sent to the server your playing at... using two computers will on the same network, sends the same IP....

If you connect to a proxy and go through a proxy it will send the proxies IP address, so you can use two computers there....

Just because you have two different Internel IP addresses doesn't mean it will send two different IPs to the server...

Hopefully it makes sense...

Someone else might be able to explain it better...

Read these links. - Internal IP, External IP

Thanks,

What your saying makes sence, but two computers on the same network can connect at the same time... Because they have different Host addresses.

So if I was able to use the wireless and the wired interfaces, My laptop would have two different Host IP addresses.

Then I would have to somehow make IE use two different connections... but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I'm pretty sure the computer can either use one connection only, not two at the same time.

And your computer would have two different internal IP addresses.... and only one external IP.

OK I'm a bit on the confused side. I use two computer which are on the same private network to play the game. Don't they both use the same public IP address?

I might be mistaken, havent made it that far in networking...
