hey i was thinking of getting a Intel® Desktop Board DP45SG mother board but it says that its ati crossfire compoatable but i am planning on using nvidia geforce is it still possible to use it or do i gotta pick a differnt mother board?

For a pair of NVidia driven cards you will want an SLI capable board not one seeing an ATI chipset. Crossfire is limited to an identical pair of an ATI model.

If you don't find a suitable Intel SLI capable board then you would need to look over others made by Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, some DFI or Abit models, etc.. In contrast however you will notice a larger variety of SLI boards being available.

hmm alright what would u reccomend for a intel core 2 quad q9550 somthing i can run 2 geforce cards and possibly duelscreen eventually, also i was wondering can i just use one card untill i save up for the next one ?

good stuff man thanks,, so which mother board should i use for my q9550 quad core so i can add a few optical drives some other stuff for video and sound card?

seriously though, SLI and crossfire are overrated. One amazing card is better and cheaper than two good cards

yeah i agree i was looking at this one,, how is is for a great single card NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI MCP?

Many have been looking at ATI 4800s as well as NVidia 9900 and 9800 models if you are going for a PCI-E 2.0 board. The ATI 4000s as well as NVidia 9000s are already out for seeing Crossfire if you were set on that particular board.

First find the best board that suits your needs and build up from there. I generally look at nForce chipsets as a rule despite running ATI cards. You wouldn't have any problems with a single card there. Who makes the board?

i think i would like to use an nvidia board somthing to run the quad q95500 il be using it mostly for gaming surfing and watching movies

basically im looing for somthing high end so i wont have to go buy a new one in a few years. i dont need sli but id like it to be very fast and be able to run geforce vid cards and everything else that is normal these days for fast gaming and dowloading and work with the intel quad q9550, hopfully somthing under 600 bucks would be nice

If you not going to run SLI you dont have to have a Nvidia chip board. Intel or Nvidia chips will run a single card just fine. But if you use Nvidia card it would be nice later to have the option if you changed you mind.

Higher end, depends on what price, 780i boards go from 230 bucks to 430 bucks.

ok i think i understand,, so what would be the one i should get then lol :P osrry if im bugging yeah once i decide this then i can really get on to building it :P what do u think about the nforce 780 i sli 775 a1?

Boards are what is dual channel. On old Socket A and 754 boards for example the 754s were all single channel while many Socket A AMD boards were more of a simulated dual channel seeing three dimm slots with the third for forcing single channel mode when populated on many boards.

The first link still shows a board running DDR2 800 memory. For a larger increment DDR3 is now seen like with the Asus Striker II model I posted earlier. Given another year or so DDR4 will be the next in line. All the memory seen these days for anything new is dual sided, double data rate so you don't have worry on that.

Unlike what was said above, the board in the first link supports up to DDR2 1200. Newegg says DDR2 800 but it supports up to DDR2 1200.

There is no such thing as Dual Channel Memory. The Memory Controller runs the memory in Dual Channel. But yes the board in the first link will run the memory in Dual Channel. Any new socket desktop board now has dual channel capabilities.
