Question for all you smart people out there

Don't Hack!!!

New Member
I have a router which sends out a wifi signal up to about 500ft radius. I'm 1000 ft. away from the router. I have a wifi receiver that has a range of 800 ft. Will i be able to connect to the internet?

I posed this simple for a couple of things I Don't understand.

I figured wifi receivers only receive signals that reach them.

Therefore if there is no connection being made between wifi singal origin and receiver the origin of the signal would have to be boosted.

That doesn't seem to be the case after i read up on a couple of products.
So to better my understanding i made up this problem

But.. they're all wireless type N and supposedly they have 15x more coverage and 10x more range than wireless g which is like 20 meters

Its because the range depends on both router and receiver. Instead, look for dB gain on both router and receiver. You may need to buy a repeater to get 1000ft range.
