Question for my new build

I currently have a Gateway with Intel Celeron 1.6, 256 Meg PC133 Ram, 40 gig HD, 8mb integrated Intel Graphics. Running Win XP Pro w/SP2

I am building my new system in which I am getting a Abit KN8 NF4 Socket 939 Mobo with Hypertransport, AMD 64 3200+, eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card, and Two 512 Meg DDR

Quite a step up from my current system...

My question is... Would it be possible for the time being to use my current HD that's in my Gateway in my new build? This would only be until i get the money to purchase a larger HD and a new Operating System. Or would it not work being that its from a Gateway Intel-based Machine?

I would try it anyway. Connect it to your new system and then do repair installation with the Windows XP Pro CD (if you have it). This will install Windows XP and adjust the hard drive and OS to the new components.
If it doesn't work, you won't lose anything, except maybe some data from the old system, but you can back them up before you take the HD out...

the hard drive itself will work perfectly. in my experience pre loaded operating systems dont work when they are transferred between systems because the installation process will look for specific system identifiers for installation to take place. you could try to get in contact with gateway and see if they can provide you with installation disks because you are a legitimate owner of the operating system and you should legally be able to use it on another system should you wish to

*edit* in the meantime, there's no harm in trying

Well, I've been told that if I was to have any chance of accomplishing this, I would have load up windows in Safe mode...disable all the intel services/startup processes, put the HD in the new system, boot in safe mode and install the AMD drivers and such....

that might work give that a try

you coult try removing all of the drivers in the add/remove programs list, then restarting in safe mode and removing all of the hardware in the device manager which wont be on your new system. even then i think that would be a bit of a long shot
