Hey man.

I know you had all that trouble with GTAIV with your Games for Windows Live stuff.....

I want to know if you can take the GFWL crap off of the steam version?

If not, Im buying the game again, retail, and playing single player.

I'm off to go down to GAME some time next week to pick up a few games I have on digital download but would like to have physical copies of.

This includes GTAIV if it cannot be *patched*
Mirrors edge (on EA Downloader) Which I Despise, don't know why I even bothered to get it from there.
And also Burnout Paradise on EA Downloader

I'll also be picking up a few new ones like maybe, Risen, or Prototype, fuel, or a few mentioned in the thread I set up asking for game reccomendations.

Cheers!

Hey mate,

As far as i know...both the retail and steam versions use Games for windows live.....It can be taken off the retail version using Xliveless patch which basically disables GFWL....But this will remove all your abilities to play online obviusly.

I don't think its possible to do the same thing on teh steam version unfortunately.

I tweaked the hell outa mine, removed GFWL,removed intro crap....pimped out all the cars lol

Whats the problem your having?

I'm back on gta iv online now btw...found a work-around.

I dont have a problem exactly

I just dont want to end up in your situation.

Which is why I want to buy a version which I can 'patch' ;) to work without GFWL. Which obviously means buying a retail copy.

I'll be down GAME some time soon. Worth £30 imo

It isnt that the gfwl problem i was having wouldnt let me play on single player....that wasnt a problem,It was just getting online that i couldnt do!

It said i had used the key too many times, apparently gfwl removed and fixed this issue in gfwl version 3.0 but it didnt....well not for me anyway.

Whatever you dont bother contacting rockstar or microsoft for any help/problems.....they dont know what theyre talking about and pass the blame on to each other.

£30 at GAME ...Forget that, get it from here instead....

Btw il have to add you in gta iv.

And why didn't you guys visitor message or pm each other?

the whole point in forums is to read other peoples problems then read there solutions aswell as having own problems solved!

the thread was named wrong but at the end of the day its better to be for all to read than not

It's actually £14.99 in GAME too  I hadn't checked. lol

Anyway, are you saying that if GFWL is removed, you can save your games in single player?

That's all I want to do :)

With steam I doubt theres a way to remove GFWL, and with it running on the steam version, theres no way to save your singleplayer game, because its all saved remotely, apparently, onto your GFWL account.
