Ok guys i was just wondering if im going to need an 1000$ computer for running all the new games with direct 11 on max settings because i don't want to waste money that can be used on upgrades in the future i plan on building it from scratch so i know that brings the price diown from a stock computer but im just wondering if its nessecary for that price.

Is it necessary for that price? Are you asking if the price difference between buying parts and building it is much better than buying a preassembled computer?

Well that depends, on a computer in the $1000 price range, I'd say the difference isn't huge, you wont be saving a whole lot of money. The real benefit of building your own computer is so that its parts can be specifically tuned to your needs. A lot of preassembled computers aren't built for gaming. Depending on where you buy the computer, for $1000 you can buy a great computer (For instance, buying at a computer hobbyist store), or you can get a terrible computer (For instance, buying at place like walmart).

Another thing to consider is if you really know how to build a computer. It isn't rocket science, but you do need quite a bit of knowledge about computer parts. First, you need to make sure each part you buy is compatible with the motherboard, you also have to make sure you get a proper power supply. You might find out half way through you can't build it yourself and have to pay $100 for someone to finish building it for you. In that case, you'd likely lose money.

The reason a lot of people build there own computer is simply because they find it fun. I built my computer about a year ago, and to tell the truth, I didn't save much money apposed to if I would have bought preassembled. I could have if I went bargain/sale hunting, but I didn't.

Not sure if I even answered your question, I'm not quite sure what you're asking.

depending on the monitor size, i would say you'll probably want to go somewhere around $1000 (assuming USD) for it. if you go under that, then you might have trouble being able to run MAX settings with the newest games.

any games that you have in mind? are you looking for suggestions from us for components?

Yes i would really like to play starcraft 2 on max settings along with the new shogun 2 total war witch is supose to require a powerful pc but i love rts games so i'd play games in the entire total war series and the ocasional guild wars 2 whenever its supose to come out.

starcraft 2 doesn't require an insane rig and i would assume the other one you mentioned wouldn't really require a very beefy rig either. i'd say a $1000 budget would be just about perfect for your intentions.

are you looking to build or buy?

Build but do u think i can get away with like a 950$ rig or less 1000$ is pushing it i already have a monitor and keyboard and mouse but i need everything else yah i just want the computer to hold alot of games too so i wouldnt have tio reinstall and uninstall everytime i want to play somthing new

$950 should work as well.

for holding a lot of games you'd just get a bigger hard drive (probably just a single 1TB hdd).

there are a TON of different opinions on cases, so i'll just leave this one here. if you think you are spending too much for the overall build, then go cheaper with the case. maybe this one.

with mail in rebates and stuff you'd be looking at a little less than $1000. do you plan on overclocking at all?

yeah then a 5850 will be more than ample. i'd still get it though and not a lesser card.

Edit: do you happen to know where i can squeeze windows 7 64bit premium addition without ruining the entire build
