Question-Operating System CD

My son has a Dell that came with Windows Vista which he cannot stand. My older Dell has Windows XP Pro which we all love. His computer sits unused while he is on mine all the time. I don't mind sharing, but hate that his computer is wasted.

Can I install XP Pro on his computer using the "Reinstallation CD" that came with my computer? I have never even opened the CD.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You will need another key. You can install the copy of windows on another computer, but the key will not activate the copy of Windows.

You will probably need a new cd too since the dell desk will try to install drivers for its hardware and will also like require the restore partition from the dell too. Just order yourself an oem of xp pro.

Thanks for the responses...

To "The Other One", how do I get another key? I also have a disc titled "Driver and Utilities" if that helps.

"Ukelele Ninja" can you suggest the best place to buy an OEM of XP Pro? Seems like everything is Windows 7, now? How much should I expect to pay?

Thanks so much for helping me out and sorry if my questions are elementary, I'mnot very high-tech! :o

Actually, most "Dell" copies of Windows don't have anything that installs by itself. I've used Dell copies of windows on other computers in the past. When I worked at the hospital, they would get new PCs and reload them with a copy of Windows they had, so we had hundreds of copies of Windows laying around. I actually just tossed about 5 :o
