Question re: V8 CPU cooler

It handles up to 140watt cpu's
Handles and cools effectively are two totally different things. Anything better than a core 2 quad or phenom II i wouldnt run on one, take a look at some of the bechmarks between it and other coolers on an i7, even the Xigmatek S1283 beat it out on i7 in a few tests i saw.

I read a bunch of reviews last night - both on Newegg - and on various websites comparing the v8 to xigmatech - noctua - and a 12 or 13 bunch of others. V8 was around middle of the pack on the core i7 920 - but the temp difference looked pretty marginal to me. On a price basis ( which is a primary issue for me ) at $40 bucks - I don't think you could touch it with any other coolers.

If I wanted to spend $70 or $80 I would choose a different cooler - but for my needs - I'd rather have a good CPU cooler and the extra $40 bucks in savings - for something more important to me. If I overclock at some point in the future - maybe I'll change my opinion - but this V8 is a heckuva lot better than the OEM fan I'm running right now.

V8 - CPU coolers just came back in stock - they jacked the price back up to 69.99. Now looks like Amazon is best price at 52.99.

Check Tigerdirect....they had the same price and over $60 = free shipping at the time.

Will let you guys know I ordered this for my old mans I5 1156 build so will see how well it handles it temps wise. I have a Xigmatek S1283 as well so I can do 775 test and I5 test :D

I have the TRUE, and I highly recommend it.

My 550 unlocked to quad takes 1.525 Vcore to get stable, on a stock cooler it can hit 70c in 20 seconds with prime95. With the TRUE, never goes above 52c no matter what you do. 30c case temp.

TRUE is a hell of a price tag though you looking at $80 or more before shipping.

Shame newegg doesn't appear to sell them.

TRUE's can be had for less than $50....

eg. http://www.svc.com/u120e-rt-775.html
(Albeit it is on clearance, but its still under $50:P)

Just like the megahalems, sure you need a fan or two for it but its still a few fans plus $55 if you can find it in stock at that price.

Yup if you shop around you can get a deal. My TRUE with an extra purchase of the AM2 brackets costs $63 shipped. The AM2 bracket was $7 plus it probably charged me a little extra shipping. So you can find a true, which comes automatically with atleast 775 and/or 1366 brackets for under $55 shipped.

If anybody lives near a Local Fry's Electronics, check your newspaper's ad. My local store in Chicago area is sellin em for $29.99 after a $20.00 Rebate.
