i visited microsoft.com for windows update and the it gave this update Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

should i download it ?? but i am using service pack 2 why it is one out there

its .NET framework SP 1, it's not related to XP SP2. You don't really need it unless you do software development with .NET apis

The .NET framework is a run-time environment, just like Java or Python. If you have a program written in one of the .NET languages, then it will require the appropriate run-time files. Don't bother upgrading unless you need it; that is, if you try to install a piece of software and it tells you that it needs a particular version of the .NET framework.

You don't really need it unless you do software development with .NET apis

Or you have apps that rely on .NET (i.e., NSW2005 ... ugh)
