question

I don't think it is, I have a friend that has a 3.2 OC'ed to 3.6. They are good for OC'ing, gaming they are decent. May be bad b-cause of the 533Mhz FSB.

When you look at the minimum system requirements for most of the games and see a 800-900mhz minimum you are well covered for stock gaming with Pentium D. When looking for the fastest clock speeds and ocing then you make more expensive decisions.

i dont know too much about the pentium d.. but i have an overclocked celeron combined with a 7900GT, which doesnt lag at all on games with max settings... haters.. lol

It's not that Pentium Ds aren't good for gaming, it is just that they aren't as good as the X2 or Core 2 Duo series. I'm running an X1900XT off of a Pentium D 820; while I wouldn't mind upgrading my processor in the future, it is satisfactory right now. Of course, I don't game all that much...

When most of the games out even some newer ones will adequately run on a P II system you won't have too much worry about the Pentium D. But if this is a consideration for a new build you may want to choose the best and brightest within your budget to see the best performance value. Some AMD models will also perform better for fast frame rates and ocing. If planning on upgrading to Vista the newer the better there.
