Ok, I'm thinking of getting a laptop soon for school/gaming, and I have a question. Will there be a performance difference between Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium?

The computers I am looking at will have 1.6ghz c2d processors with either 1gb ram or 2gb ram. If I go with just 1gb, will the computer run noticebly faster with Basic than with Premium?

I would get Home Premium. The price difference is not that big at all and you definitely have some nicer features in Premium. If you feel it is taking up too many resources when you are playing games, you can always turn off the features that consume too much - and later you can turn them back on again. I think if you get Basic, you will probably regret it down the line.
