How sketchy is it to use an illegal copy of XP Pro... I'm putting together my system and have decided XP (don't want vista quite yet) and my friend says he has a copy of XP Pro that he uses but should I just fork over the 200 bucks or whatever to get a legit version?
 
Its fine to use it. But you might have a deal with the cd key for it. Its not really illegal, your just using the same copy on multiple pc's

actually aluminum it is illegal. if he were to take his friend's copy of XP, his friend would have to completely uninstall it from his computer. this can only be done once legally. you cannot "use the same copy on multiple PCs"

It is illegal, besides the CD being a pirated copy, it's also illegal to use the same CD and key on more then one PC.

You can buy Windows XP for under $100 on Newegg.

you can actually transfer the CD and key one time according the XP's EULA. but i doubt his friend will want to uninstall XP so that he can use it...
