Questionable Bioshock Performance

I've been playing Bioshock for a good while on my laptop but I noticed something strange. My specs are:

Video cards: 260m sli (with integrated 9400m) updated to the latest drivers, version 197.16

CPU: p8600 oc'ed to 3.0 Ghz

Ram: 4GB @1333 Mhz

Mobo chipset: Nvidia nforce 730i

bios version: A03

With everything maxed out the game gets about 25-33 fps, but I noticed that with everything set to the lowest possible setting both in game and through nvidia control panel (with all texture optimizations turned on and texture filtering set to high performance) the fps of the game increased to 30-36 fps (same level), even with the resolution set to 640x480! This seemed odd to me that Bioshock would do this because this rig maxes out Crysis at about the same speed.

My question is whether or not this is the best performance I can get out of the game.
Also, are the latest 197.16 drivers the best choice for my sli setup?

Maybe bioshock doesnt like sli? :p some games don't run brilliant on sli, sometimes makes them slower. Is the game up to date?

Yep, the game is updated, and I think I found the problem; it seems that I accidentally overwrote my previous display driver so I just did a clean install of the newer 197.16 driver at it seems to be running at 40 frames minimum now. I'll try non-sli mode while I'm at it but 40 frames seems satisfactory enough. :good:

Much apologies for bumping an old thread but the performance issues crept back up again as I started the game over; I tried reinstalling to see if that would patch anything up but to no avail, the game is updated and was tested with sli on and off. Unfortunately Bioshock seems to perform even worse than before in earlier levels running at an borderline playable 19-30 fps (courtesy of fraps) !

Methinks it has something to do with the driver, I reinstalled the 197.16 version drivers (the most recent one had a glitch where I couldn't manage 3d settings) after uninstalling the previous drivers and running driver sweeper to clean out the previous driver version.

Unfortunately this did not work, however I can't really think of anything else that would cause this performance drop; "stealth mode" (the mode for an m17x to switch the 260m's off and go to the 9400m chip-set) is off, battery settings are at high performance (and plugged in), and device manager shows that the gpu's along with the chip-set are working.

Other games seem to be having lower fps as well even if i turn the graphics to low.
