Hi all,
I am new here. I have few questions for you the experts. please can some one tell me how do you recover the netbook to its default stage when the computer crashed? mostly by virus or other factors say miss system files?
The netbook don't come with any internal dvd or cd drives. most people use usb external drive. can you bootup with usb drives without operating system in the hard drive?
Thank you in advance.
Paul

Look in your documentation on how to recover the hard drive in case of OS problems. Most likely your netbook came with a recovery partition on the hard drive which will restore your netbook back to factory condition. You would have to boot to this recovery partition and follow the prompts.

Thank you, I look at the manual it say use external usb drives. is it possible to make an usb jump drive bootable?

Please follow the instructions below to install the Windows XP operating system into your notebook.
Installation Requirement
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM with USB interface for installation

Note that the older version of Windows® OS does not support the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM with
USB interface. Please confirm that your operating system installation disk is official

Installing Windows XP
Attach the power cord to the AC adapter and the notebook.
Connect the external USB CD-ROM or DVD-ROM to the notebook
Place the Windows® XP service pack 2 (or newer) installation disk into the external USB
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM connected.
Start the system and press <F11> while the system is booting up.
Select the boot device [USB:xxxxxxx (maybe labeled with different name)] to boot from the
optical device drive.
Delete any existing partition while the Windows® XP installation screen appears.
Note that it is strongly recommended to back up the data that stored in the attached external
hard disk drive or the USB flash drive.
Press <Enter> and select [Format the partition using the NTFS file system] to start the

I'm pretty sure most all Netbooks have some form of recovery partition. Acer's, if I remember correctly, can be restored by pressing F11 during POST. Most all others work in a similar fashion. The manual should tell you specifically which button to press.

As for USB, it's very possible to boot from a USB flash drive. I use one daily now with my diagnostic software. However, getting Windows setup to boot from a flash drive is rather tricky. I'd suggest just getting yourself an external drive or find someone who has one you could use. Most USB optical drives will boot no problem. I have seen one or two USB DVD drives that wouldn't boot for some odd reason...

Thank you for your information, do you remember the brand of usb dvd drive that won't boot? I am going to buy one. I am thinking about samsung that sell for 47.99 at amazon.com. Samsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive for Mac and PC SE-S084C/RSBN (Gloss Black). I hope this is not one of them that can't boot.
Thanks again

This was a few years ago. Honestly, even if I could remember for sure what the brand was, it wouldn't do much good. I'm sure companies use different components quite often. Heck it could make a difference with whatever brand computer it's plugged into. Besides, if you get it from Amazon (and I mean Amazon, not a third-party seller) their return policy is quite good. I'm sure you could swap it out or something if it won't boot for whatever reason.
