questions about upgrading?

is it true that if you take out the motherboard as well as the other parts but keep the same HDD, you'd still lose all your files?

and, what is the best socket 939 processor in the market? just curious. i am planning to switch though to a x2 5200+ socket AM2.

no you won't lose all your files, (it depends) some hard drives adjust to the change (new hardware) and boots off successfully, while others fail to boot and give errors, but to solve the matter it's better to repair than format.
about the second question, hmm i dunno am not too good around cpus , someone else may assist here

thanks. it's because my friend ran a P4 and then upgraded to a C2D so he had to change his mobo. he kept his old HDD but eventually lost his files. does the OS get erased as well?

anyone have more answers?

so what did you guys do anyways, did you format ? if yes, you lose everything.
am pretty sure there's something wrong you guys did cause in upgrading you don't lose anything unless you re-install windows
does the OS get erased as well?
again, depends, like i said if you just put your HD with the new mobo, it can boot or it may not but you don't lose anything, unless you format it

nah. he had his rig upgraded by the staff where he bought his parts. we didn't touch it.

well there you go, probably they formatted it, thats what the techs do here, they don't give a danm about your data and when you will ask them they will say that you didn't tell them to back up
