Ok so here is whats happened

i open up my computer one day only to find that my dual ide cable has broken, i replace it whith a new one and fire up my pc,
for some reason up comes my mobo logo:

I leave it for ages and finally it comes saying tht i need to reboot and select a valid boot device.

i reboot and go into setup
i get this screen:

I go into standard cmos features and get this:
100_2605.JPG

and as you can see it notices my hard drive and my cd/dvd drive
but when i go back to the setup's main screen and go into advanced cmos features and select boot order this is what i get:
100_2610.JPG
and as you can see it obviously doesnt see my hardware on this page therefore i cannot fire up my computer at all:(

thanx for reading and sory that that last pic was a bit blured:o

On that last picture, thats normal. It is just listing the boot order. It will not specify what the drive actually is, just the order you want to boot from.

Otherwise everything looks normal.

It could be the new cable you are using. Try another cable just to be sure. IDE cables are famous for going bad with little or no reason.

And did you make sure that the end of the new IDE cable is going to your hard drive and the middle connector is going to your dvd/cd drive. Are your jumpers set correctly? Do you have the jumpers set to cable select or master and slave?

Are you sure you used the correct IDE cable. There are 2 different types. I forget what the amount of pins are for each of the types though.

Everything on those screens looks to be in order to me. The last screen determines your boot order, you have hdd first and then cdrom. The bios detects your hard drive as master and your burner as slave. If you can't boot up then you have other issues, but the bios detects everything it should. When you turn on your computer now what does it do?

yes but my mobo logo has never came up when starting windows before and befor on my boot sequence it actually specified the name of my hardware

ps: how do you explain the "please choose valid boot device" symptons
(sorry if souding rude, i didnt mean to be)

Your computer is fine. The third screen shot you posted says your hard drive is detected fine, your last screen shot just shows what bootup options you have as far as what to boot to first. I usually have floppy as first, cdrom as second, and hard drive as third. It seems the one of your bios settings has changed. Look in the bios for the option labeled quiet boot, full screen logo or something to that effect and disable it, so that way you see the post tests on boot up. Look in the advanced bios features for that option. It seems you are only wanting to get rid of the oem logo screen correct? If you do then just follow my instructions. i don't have a computer here at the moment with that type of bios or i could tell you exactly where to look but i believe its somewhere in the advanced bios features.

Well, according to the bios it detects the hard drive and you have hard drive listed as first boot device. Not sure what is wrong, except try a different IDE cable. You also might want to download the drive manufacturers diagnostic utility put on floppy or cd and test the hard drive to make sure its ok. Other than that put the hard drive in another system to see if that system recognizes it and shows any data on it.

i have to leave in about 30 minutes but i'll be back in a couple hours. If i'm not here, i'm sure someone else can help you out. That is what we are here for. But i'll look in on you when I get back.
