i only have 1 main drive, and i want to partition it into 2 other drives for a total of 3 drives. but i want to leave the drive as the main drive (when i download a program, have it go to the original drive as default). how should i partition it? i partitioned it, but it downloads to one of the new drives, and i want it to download to the original drive. how should i do this?

If you spit a drive into three separate partitions generally the "C" drive is the first partition where Windows is installed on. The others may see E, F, G, H for a drive letter depending on whether or not you have a cd or dvd drive installed or have more then one of those. When downloading the option to select the drive and folder is usually seen on the save to prompt.

If your primary's drive letter has been changed somehow you would need to go into the "Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management" section and double click on storage to get to the Disk Management tool. On each rectangular section with a specific drive letter designated you simply right click on it to reassign it to a letter that is currently not in use. Knowing the actual size of each partition will help in identifying which one it is.

i made the partitions as 'primary' partitions, should i have made then as 'extended' ?

my drive letters are the same. but when i download programs, i want them to go directly to the program files on the originally drive ( c: ) and not on the new partitions.
