quick quad-core question

I was wondering if it is worth it to go the extra effort to use the quadcore as opose to anything else. im fairly new at this so if anyone can shed some light o advantages and dis.advantages i would really appreaicte it thanks alot. also what is the best processor to use when building a deskop for gaming, videos, pure speed, and such thanks!

For pure speed, QUAD FTW! For gaming...currently very few titles utilize more than 2 cores but in (near?) future there are going to be heaps more multi-threaded games. For videos? if you mean WATCHING videos it doesn't really matter, a single-core celeron can do that. Heck, my 266MHz P2 used to play DVDs just fine. If you mean VIDEO EDITING, quad grabs the gold.

Usually, when buiding high-performance desktops, the options usually are narrowed down to E8400 (3GHz 45nm Dual-Core) and Q6600 (2.4GHz 65nm Quad-Core). I, personally, would get the quad, since games are more GPU than CPU-bound it doesn't make a massive difference, and quads offer so much more potential performance than duals and Intel quads are just sick OCers anyway ;)

Hey thanks , so when you say that there arnt alot of titles for quadcores that means i wont be able to play alot of games that are out now? in that case wouldnt it be better to just use a duelcore? or can i make it into a quadcore after?

I mean, most games currently out there won't utilize all four cores of a quad, but it doesn't mean that they won't work. If a game utilizes only 2 cores, the and you have a sual-core at 2.4 GHz adding 2 cores ain't gonna increase performance, but increased clockspeed is - that's why some people recommend faster dual-core over slower quads for gaming. However, as I said, games rely on your video card more than raw CPU power, and you can always OC a quad which is why you'd be better off going with a quad, it's got more potential performance and future games will utilize all 4 (and even more) cores.

great thanks alotor your helpso i will be going with a quadcore, is there a certain one that you would reccomend and also choosing one would narrow down my choices for a motherboard witch would be my next question :P
