Can windows media player play the format 'mpg' and if so does it require any codecs or whatever to allow it to run in media player. If it requires codecs or anything else to play this format could someone please post a link to a free downloadable codec and/or anything else which is required. All help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

you have to have an mpeg decoder codec installed. As an alternative you can d/l and install the excellent free player VLC (videolan)Which i believe plays Mpg,s.

Yes, VLC is about the best, most universal player I've found so far, if it can't play it, then pretty much nothing can... :D
