quick question on ram

i got an old computer on ram from a friend and it has a stick of ram in it and has 2200 written on it. Would i be correct in quessing it could take a 3200 stick of ram to upgrade it? The harddrive was dead so can't run any programs to get more detail on the one currently inside.
 
HUM, 2200 dont know what that would be right off. Are those the only numbers on it? They make DDR 266/PC 2100 but it jumps to DDR 333/ PC 2700. Dont really know if 2200 would have anything to do with the speed of it. Does the computer have a model number?
 
well the motherboard has gigabyte ga 7vax written on it, and it does have more on ram but was tiny - pc2100 256mb ddr/cl2.5
