quick question

i have a 3 year old dell and i have upgraded a lot on the computer. My next upgrade is the case....im planning on getting a cool looking case and transfering everything in to the new case....my question is how do i find out the size of my motherboard so that it will fit in the case....also what else do i need to know in order to do this change over.
 
well its going to depend on what size case u get, if u get a midtower or fulltower then ull be fine, and is it an atx board? if ur connections on back are about in the middle then its atx, if their on the bottom then its not, most ppl have atx and if u do then just search for an atx full or mid on newegg
 
to be truthfull you have a 3 yr old dell...why waste money on cosmetics...id invest it on a new computer...keep your screen keyboard mouse etc... although computer looks good with neons and all the others...the main function is how it performs at 3 yrs old id be more botherd about performance.
 
also alot of manufacturers use proprietary motherboards that are made specifically for their cases..so it might not line up right anyway...but thats just what ive heard
 
Most likely you cant use your current motherboard with a new case. They are all special designs, along with the case. So you cant put a different MB in that case, or that MB in a different case. You would have to upgrade the motherboard, and if your motherboard is 3 years old, you would probably have to upgrade the CPU and RAM also.
 
As stated, you should invest in a new board instead of keeping a 3 year old one. Your current board will severly limit FSB speeds, etc. A nice case is purely cosmetic. Thats like having a 66 Mustang Shelby 350 with a 4 cylinder 120hp engine under the hood.

1. Ruler
2. See the manufacturer's site for the dimensions
3. Also with Dell boards you need to keep the same PSU since they dont use the same connects as everyone else
