Quick Question

Depends. If the driver asks you: What OS do you use?, then yes you do, but if it's a universal driver, then no.

You will always need to find drivers specific for your computer. Especially when it comes to Dell's. However, Dell has a great support site that generally lists all the recommended and optional drivers based on the model. Haven't seen Windows 7 yet but it looks appealing and finding drivers are one of my biggest complaints when it comes to OS changes so maybe I'll play with it on my test computer and see how well it goes.

Its not necessary there are many driver backup softwares that create a self extract .exe of all your drivers u can use it simply after installing new windows.

Different version of Windows require different drivers.

Your method would only work for reinstalling the same OS.

Just make sure that you delete all the other drivers so you don't have a buncha space taken up by incompatible drivers.

Well it also depends on how the drivers are installed. Some of my Dell ones have their own installers and if you mess around too much with them, they get pretty buggy. I didn't use adequate compression when zipping them once and it screwed up my Intel chipset installation. That was such a terrible night. Though it was fun browsing the web in 8-color mode or w/e.

I find if you install Ubuntu as your OS on a dell it will work 100% and not need drivers! The reason is many drivers are in Ubuntu and if not it will download them!

Okay, no matter what, your PC will need drivers. If you hardware is pretty new don't worry about it the OS should have no trouble finding the drivers. As said above windows 7 DOES GREAT. The only thing I would say download the driver for is the soundcard and video card. Sometimes windows doesn't get the latest versions just working versions. But its not hard so just go for it.
