i have a motherboard where none of the usb ports work ones built onto the board and the ones u connect with wires none work...so on to my question if i was to purchase a pci to usb card and put it in a pci slot would it work?

You would have to install the right drivers and everything, but yes.

Are your drives working currently for all your USB ports now? Did you just recently reinstall or anything?

basically i purchased it from someone who had windows xp genius 2 installed and the ports worked then the hdd died so i purchased a new one and installed xp home edt, now when i put a usb device in the ports (memory stick) it just lights up and computer doesnt show it i have tried updating the drivers for usb but they say no updates could be found any ideas?

I have no idea, probably a motherboard issue. And it takes members longer than 15 minutes to see this thread and help you.

Are the usb drivers installed in device manager? What does it say under usb devices?

Yeah, you can post your print screen links if you want. Probably would be a good idea.

Your usb devices look ok in device manager. You just must have dead ports. Only way to fix is to replace motherboard.

However, what model of motherboard do you have?

yes but it would also mean plugging everything into the back, unless they make any with the slot on the motherboard on the card so you can plug the front slots into, which isn't unlikely.

Yep it sure will and installing a PCI card is just a matter of shutting down, taking off the side panel, removing the metal bracket and slotting the card into place. Put side panel back on, boot up and install the drivers (might be difficult without a keyboard or mouse, windows may however auto-install the drivers, so don't give up if you can't use the mouse or keyboard at logon screen, give it some time)
